Giant Eagle Bargain Recipe of the week: Crock pot Chicken Tetrazzini

Bargain Meal of the Week

I love chicken tetrazzini! Pair that with a crock pot and I am in! I am thinking I may add some Velveeta cheese to this as well to give it some zip. Happy Eating Y'all!

I will not expense spices/oils since most of us have them on hand. W/C means with coupon.

Slow Cooker Chicken Tetrazzini


4 skinless, boneless chicken breast halves (On sale $1.79/lb) $2.69
2 tablespoons melted butter
1 (.7 ounce) package dry Italian-style salad dressing mix $.97
2 tablespoons butter
1 small onion, sliced and separated into rings (On sale $.99/lb) $.40
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of chicken soup (Campbells on sale $1) $1
1/2 cup chicken broth $.50
1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened (GE on sale $1) $1


Place chicken in the slow cooker crock. Top with 2 tablespoons melted butter; sprinkle with Italian dressing mix.

Cover, and cook on High for 3 hours.

Heat the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Stir in onion and garlic; cook and stir until onion is soft, about 5 minutes. Mix in the cream of chicken soup, chicken broth, and cream cheese. Pour mixture over the cooked chicken in the slow cooker.
Cover, and continue to cook on Low until chicken in fork tender and the sauce has thickened, about 1 additional hour.

Total Cost of Meal: $6.56

Giant Eagle Bargain recipe of the week: Easy chicken noodle soup

I love chicken noodle soup! What I don't love so much, is the carving out a day for the homemade goodness. This soup fits the bill perfectly! Its quick, easy and wonderful! Get creative with your noodle choices and spices to add some extra flair. (I also always add garlic to mine which kicks it up a notch) Don't be afraid to experiment with flavor.... you can always add more water :) Happy Eating Y'all!!!

Easy Chicken noodle soup


1 tablespoon vegetable oil
3 skinless, boneless chicken breast halves - cut into bite size pieces (On sale $1.59/lb) $1.59
1 cup sliced carrots (On sale $1.25 for a 1 lb bag ) $.32
4 cups chicken broth (College Inn on sale $1.33) $2.66
1 cup chopped celery (On sale $1.25 ) $.42
1/2 red onion, chopped $.20
3/4 cup chopped fresh mushrooms (On sale $.99) $.75
1 cup uncooked noodles (Giant Eagle Pasta on sale $1) $.50


Heat oil in a medium skillet over medium high heat. Fry chicken pieces in the oil until slightly browned and the juices run clear. Remove from the pan and drain on a paper towel.

In a large saucepan or Dutch oven, heat chicken broth over medium heat. Add the carrots, celery, onion and mushrooms. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and let simmer for 20 to 25 minutes. Add the noodles and cook for 10 more minutes or until noodles are al dente.

Giant Eagle Bargain recipe of the week: Easy Italian Chicken

Anything with "easy" in the title of a recipe catches my eye. Mama's are too busy to be slaving over a stove for hours at a time! Serve over rice and a green veggie for a complete meal. Hope your family enjoys.. happy eating y'all!!

Easy Italian Chicken


8 chicken legs, halved (On sale $.79/lb) $2.37
4 cloves garlic
1 tablespoon crushed red pepper flakes
1 tablespoon vegetable oil $.10
salt to taste
1/2 cup water


In a large skillet, brown the chicken pieces in oil and cook for about 15 minutes over medium heat.

Crush garlic cloves and squeeze over chicken. Cover skillet and cook over low heat for 10 minutes each side. Remove cover, sprinkle with red pepper flakes and salt to taste, add water and simmer over low heat until water evaporates and the chicken pieces are sticky and yummy!

Total Cost of Meal: $2.47

Giant Eagle Bargain Recipe of the week: Cheeze-It Chicken

I love Cheeze-it's! Combine with chicken and some simple ingredients (that are on sale) and you have a winner!!! Hope you guys love this recipe as much as we do. Happy Eating y'all!!!

Cheeze-It Chicken

1 lb chicken breast halves (On sale$1.79/lb) $1.79

1 sm. box Cheeze-Its (for crumbs) (On sale w/c $.50) $.25

1(8 oz.) carton sour cream (Breakstone on sale w/c $.75) $.37

Salt and pepper 1 cube melted butter $.20

Dip first in sour cream and then into Cheeze- Its which have been processed into crumbs. Place in a baking dish and dribble with the melted butter. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes covered and 15 minutes uncovered.

Total Cost of Meal: $2.61

Giant Eagle Bargain recipe of the week : South of the Border Chicken and Pasta Skillet

Bargain Meal of the Week

I have been dying to try this recipe and with most of the ingredients on sale this week, its the perfect opportunity!! This is one of my more expensive recipes but it sounds so yummy....Happy Eating Y'all!!

I will not expense spices/oils since most of us have them on hand.

South of the Border Chicken and Pasta Skillet

2 cups pasta, uncooked (Barilla on sale $1) $1

2 skinless chicken breasts, halved (On sale $1.99) $1.99

16 oz salsa (Chi-Chi's On sale $2.50) $2.50

10 oz frozen corn, unthawed $.90

4 oz cream cheese, cubed (On sale $1.25) $.62

1/4 tsp ground cumin

1 cup shredded cheese of your choice $1.25

Cook pasta as directed.

Meanwhile, cook and stir chicken in non stick skillet sprayed with cooking spray on med-high heat 6 minutes, or until done. Add salsa, corn, cream cheese, and cumin. Simmer on med-low heat 6 min. or until corn is heated through and cream cheese is melted, stirring occasionally.

Drain pasta, add to skillet with half the shredded cheese. Simmer 3 minutes or until heated through. Top with remaining shredded cheese; cover. Remove from heat; let stand 5 minutes or until cheese is melted.

Total Cost of Meal: $8.26

Giant Eagle Bargain Recipe of the week: Gravy Baked Pork Chops

My hubby loves these pork chops. I love that my kidlets love them! Its fabtabulous in the fall but I thought I would post the recipe now since everything is on sale! Happy Eating Y'all!!

I will not expense spices/oils since most of us have them on hand. W/C means with coupon.

Gravy Baked Pork Chops


4 pork chops (On sale $1.79/lb) $1.79
salt and pepper to taste
1 tablespoon butter (On sale $3/2) $.05
3/4 cup milk (On sale $1.99) $.08
1/4 cup water
1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup (On sale $1) $1


Preheat oven to 350 degrees


Season pork chops with salt and pepper to taste. Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium high heat. Saute the pork chops in the butter for about 5 minutes per side.

In a separate medium bowl, combine the milk, water and soup. Place the pork chops in a 9x13 inch baking dish and pour the soup mixture over the chops.

Bake at 350 degrees F for 45 minutes.

Bargain Recipe of the week - No Frying Chicken Parmesan

This is not a new recipe for my family this week. I have made it several times and my kidlets love it !! I am very thankful that there is no frying involved because the thought of splattering hot grease makes me cringe!! Happy Eating Y'all!!

I will not expense spices/oils since most of us have them on hand.

No Frying Chicken Parmesan


1 lb skinless chicken breast halves (On sale $1.59/lb) $1.59
1 egg, beaten $.09
3/4 cup Italian seasoned bread crumbs $.25
1 jar Pasta Sauce ( Del Grosso on sale $1) $1
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese ( On sale $1.67) $.84


Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Dip chicken in egg, then bread crumbs.

Arrange chicken in 13 x 9-inch baking dish. Bake 20 minutes.

Pour pasta sauce over chicken; top with cheese. Bake an additional 10 minutes or until chicken is thoroughly cooked. Serve, if desired, with hot cooked pasta.

Total Cost of Meal: $3.77

Gian Eagle Bargain recipe of the week- Lowfat Baked Chicken

Have you ever gone to restaurant and had the yummy pina colado chicken or shrimp. It's chicken and its sweet and it works! I found this recipe and was sort of skeptical. It however has gotten rave reviews. One reviewer even said they put some blueberries and raspberries on top! Kiddos love them because their sweet and you love them because they are halfway decent for you!!

Lowfat Baked Chicken

4 skinless, boneless chicken breasts (On sale $1.99/lb) $1.99
4 cups Vanilla non-fat yogurt ( Giant Eagle on sale 20/$10) $2
2 cups frosted flakes cereal (On sale 4/$7) .44


Preheat the oven to 350 degrees

Crush the Frosted Flakes crumbs in a ziploc baggie.

Dip the chicken breasts in the yogurt, coating both sides. Roll in crushed crumbs to coat all sides, then place in a 9x13 inch baking dish. Bake the chicken in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.

Total Cost of Meal: $4.43

Giant Eagle Bargain recipe of the day - BBQ Pot Roast

Pot Roast is on sale this week at Giant Eagle. I love roast but it always makes me think of fall! I found this recipe and though ewwww! Everyone that has tried it says that it is AWESOME!! It has more of a summertime feel because its BBQ. I have been told to shred the leftover meat in the remaining sauce and have pulled BBQ beef sandwiches later. That two meals for the price of 1, which works for me!!

BBQ Pot Roast


1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1 pound boneless beef chuck shoulder steak, cut 3/4 inch thick (On sale $1.67/lb) $1.67
1 tablespoon canola oil
3/4 cup water
3/4 cup tomato sauce $.75
1 medium onion, sliced $.50
1 garlic clove, minced
3 tablespoons lemon juice (On sale $1/2) $.30
3 tablespoons ketchup
4 teaspoons brown sugar
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
1/4 teaspoon ground mustard


Combine salt and pepper; rub over steak. In a Dutch oven, brown steak in oil on both sides. Add the water, tomato sauce, onion and garlic. Cover and simmer for 30 minutes.

Combine the remaining ingredients; pour over the meat. Cover and simmer for 1 to 1-1/4 hours or until meat is tender.

Bargain recipe of the week- Ground Beef Curly Noodle

Ok ....stick with me here. I found this recipe and thought... ewwww. Everyone that has tried it, however assures me that it is DELICIOUS!! What makes me happier is that its cheap and so easy I want to cry with relief on a busy day! I am told that the kiddos absolutely love it and.. get this... want more! Happy eating y'all!

Ground Beef Curly Noodle

1 pound ground beef (On sale $1.99/lb ) $1.99
1 (3 ounce) package Oriental flavored ramen noodles (On sale 6 pk $1) $.16
1 (14.5 ounce) can diced tomatoes $.99
1 (10 ounce) can whole kernel corn $.80


Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Crumble in the ground beef, and cook until no longer pink, stirring frequently. Drain off grease.

Stir in the flavor packet from the noodles, tomatoes, and corn (with their juices). Break up the noodles slightly, and add them to the skillet. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 10 minutes, or until noodles are tender. Stir occasionally to break up any clumps of noodles.

I thought that I better start posting some summertime, grill out recipes! Forth of July is coming up and I want try some new burgers.... I don't know about you but I am tired of the bland patty that we always have! This recipe is said to keep your guests coming back for seconds. Make it a RED, WHITE AND BLUE burger by serving them with sliced tomato, white onion and blue cheese :) Happy Eating Y'all!

Best Hamburger Ever


1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef (On sale $1.99 a lb) $2.98
1/2 onion, finely chopped .50
1/2 cup shredded Colby or Monterey Jack cheese (On sale 3 for $5 Kraft) .41
1 teaspoon soy sauce
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 egg .16
1 (1 ounce) envelope dry onion soup mix .60
1 clove garlic, minced
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon dried parsley
1 teaspoon dried basil
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon crushed dried rosemary
salt and pepper to taste


Preheat a grill for high heat.

In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, onion, cheese, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, egg, onion soup mix, garlic, garlic powder, parsley, basil, oregano, rosemary, salt, and pepper. Form into patties.

Grill patties for 5 minutes per side on the hot grill, or until well done. Serve on buns with your favorite condiments.

This recipe seems too good to be true! Add your own seasoning for extra kick and also feel free to substitute a beaten egg for butter. Line your pan with foil for more easy cleanup. Happy Eating Y'all!!

Tater Crisp Chicken


10 chicken legs (On sale .99 a lb) $2
1 cup melted butter
2 cups dry potato flakes (Idahoan on sale w/c .50) .50

Salt and pepper to taste


Preheat oven to 400 degrees

Place melted butter or margarine in a shallow dish or bowl, then place potato flakes, salt and pepper in a separate shallow dish or bowl. Roll chicken pieces in butter or margarine, then in potato flakes. Place coated chicken pieces in a 9x13 inch baking dish, skin side up.

Bake at 400 degrees F for 1 hour.

Giant Eagle Bargain Recipe of the week- Almost stuffed peppers

Boy, does my hubby love stuffed peppers! I love them too but what I don't love is how long it takes to make them! I am so excited to try this recipe because it sounds like the "real thing" without the work. Feel free to add your own spices or veggies to this. I plan to put mine over noodles! Almost Stuffed Peppers


1 pound ground beef (On sale $1.80 a lb) $1.80
2 cups water
1 (14.5 ounce) can diced tomatoes, undrained .89
1 large pepper cut into 1/4-inch slices (On sale 2.99 a lb) .99
1 medium onion, thinly sliced .60
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1 1/2 cups uncooked instant rice (Rice a Roni on sale 8 for $10) .30



In a large skillet, brown beef; drain. Set beef aside and keep warm.


In the same skillet, combine water, tomatoes, pepper, onion and seasonings; bring to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, until vegetables are tender.


Stir in rice; cover and remove from the heat. Let stand for 5 minutes. Stir in beef; return to the stove and heat through.


Total cost of Meal: $4.58

Bargain recipe of the week- Taco mac and cheese.

Bargain Meal of the Week

I am trying to keep the recipes simple this week. Mama's are tired, tired people! The kiddos are sure to love this recipe and you are sure to love the ease of preparation! I freeze half of this and have it at a later time reducing the cost. Happy Eating y'all!

Velveeta Taco Mac & Cheese

1 lb. ground beef (On sale $1.69 a lb) $1.69
1/3 cup Salsa ( On sale Natures Basket organic salsa on sale 2.79) .47
1 box Velveeta shells and cheese (On sale $2) $2

1 package taco seasoning .80

Brown meat in large skillet; drain. Stir in 2 and 3/4 cups water, salsa and seasoning. Bring to boil; stir in macaroni. Cover; simmer 10 minutes or until water is almost absorbed. Add Velveeta; stir until melted.

Top with crushed tortilla chips, chopped green onions and tomatoes, if desired.

Total Cost of Meal: $4.96

Italian Chicken Bow Tie Pasta

4 skinless, boneless chicken breast halves - cooked (On sale $1.69) $2.12
1 (16 ounce) package farfalle pasta (On sale Barilla 4 for $5 ) $1.25
1 (8 ounce) bottle Italian-style salad dressing (On sale Kraft w/c .17) .17
1 tomato, chopped (On sale 1.99 a lb) .33

Add 2/3 cup salad dressing to the cubed chicken and stir together.

Cook pasta per package directions. Drain and rinse. Add the pasta to the chicken and dressing and toss. Pour enough dressing on to coat everything (or to your taste) and add the chopped tomato. Toss to coat. Ready to serve!

GE Bargain recipe of the week- Pork Chops with Tomatoes and String Beans

Here is another pork recipe for you. I like this one because we grow fresh green beans in our garden. With this recipe I can use them in an actual recipe instead of heapin them on the side :) Maybe the kids won't realize there is a a veggie in there? Happy eating y'all!

Pork Chops with Tomatoes and String Beans

1 pound fresh green beans, trimmed (On sale $1.29 a lb) $1.29

1/4 cup olive oil
4 pork chops (On sale $1.99) $2

1 teaspoon salt
1 pinch ground black pepper
1 teaspoon chopped sage
1 tablespoon minced garlic
several tomatoes, sliced (On sale Giant Eagle canned whole tomatoes $1.19) .60
shredded Cheddar cheese to taste .99


Preheat an oven to 350 degrees. Grease an 8x8 inch baking dish.
Fill a saucepan with lightly salted water, and bring to a rolling boil over high heat. Once the water is boiling, add the green beans, and return to a boil. Cook uncovered until the green beans are just tender, 3 to 4 minutes. Drain the beans, reserving 2/3 cup of the cooking liquid. Spread the beans into the greased baking dish.

Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the pork chops, and cook until golden brown on each side, about 3 minutes per side. Season the browned pork chops with salt, pepper, sage, and garlic, then arrange over the green beans. Boil the reserved cooking liquid in the skillet and stir the browned bits until dissolved. Pour over the pork chops. Place the tomato slices over the pork chops, and cover each with Cheddar cheese.

Bake in the preheated oven until the pork is no longer pink in the center, 20 to 25 minutes. An instant-read thermometer inserted into the center should read 160 degrees.

With 2 busy toddlers I just don't have time to make Lasagna the old fashioned way. I can't wait to try this recipe because my little ones love everything in it......and of course it looks easy! Happy Eating!

Skillet Bow Tie Lasagna

1 pound ground beef (On sale $1.99 a lb) 1.99
1 small onion, chopped (Vidalia Onion on sale .99 a lb) .30
1 garlic clove, minced
1 (14.5 ounce) can diced tomatoes, undrained (Dei Fratelli 28 oz on sale 8 for $10) .63
1 1/2 cups water
1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste .69
1 tablespoon dried parsley flakes
2 teaspoons dried oregano
1 teaspoon salt
2 1/2 cups uncooked bow tie pasta (On sale Barilla Pasta 4 for $5) 1.25
3/4 cup small curd cottage cheese (Giant Eagle on sale 2 for $5) .62
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese


In a large skillet, cook beef, onion and garlic until meat is no longer pink; drain. Add the tomatoes, water, tomato paste, parsley, oregano and salt; mix well. Stir in pasta; bring to a boil.

Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 20-25 minutes or until pasta is tender, stirring once.
Combine cheeses; drop by rounded tablespoonfuls onto pasta mixture. Cover and cook for 5 minutes.

This week I am trying a meatless dish. It sounds so good to me (and was so simple) that I thought I would try it. I have to say, however that I think some chicken added in would be stellar! Happy Eating!

Lemon Broccoli Pasta

2 (14.5 ounce) cans chicken broth (On sale Swanson 4 for $3) $1.50
1 teaspoon lemon juice (Lemons on sale 2 for $1) .50
1 teaspoon grated lemon peel
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon pepper
6 ounces uncooked angel hair pasta (On sale San Giorgio 10 for $10) $1
3 cups broccoli florets (On sale .99) .99
3/4 cup sour cream (On sale Break stone sour cream 1.25 w/c .15) .5
2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese


In a saucepan, combine the broth, lemon juice and peel, garlic powder and pepper. Bring to a boil. Add pasta and broccoli. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, for 3-4 minutes or until pasta is tender. Drain; stir in sour cream. Sprinkle with cheese.

Total cost of meal: $4.04

Giant Eagle Bargain Recipe of the week- Beefaroni

Bargain Meal of the Week

I am going back old school for this one. No fancy recipes or ingredients but something that the kiddos will love. (I hope you do too !!) It always makes too much for my family so I make the recipe in two trays and freeze one. Then the cost of the meal is cut in half! Happy Eating!

Beefaroni

1 pound ground beef (On sale $1.99 a lb) $1.99
2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese (Sargento on sale 2 for $5) $2.50
1 jar tomato sauce (Del Grosso Pasta on sale 4 for $5) $1.25
2 tablespoons butter
1 (16 ounce) package uncooked elbow macaroni (Barilla Pasta on sale 10 for $10) $1
salt and pepper to taste

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees

Crumble the ground beef into a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook, stirring frequently, until evenly browned. Drain.

While the ground beef is cooking, bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add macaroni, and cook until tender, about 8 minutes. Drain, and stir in butter. Transfer to a large casserole dish, and mix in the ground beef, tomato sauce, and Cheddar cheese. Sprinkle a little salt and pepper over the top.

Bake uncovered for 30 minutes in the preheated oven, or until heated through and bubbly.

Total cost of this meal: $6.74 ($3.37 if you freeze half)

Giant Eagle Bargain meal of the week- Sour cream pork chops

Bargain Meal of the Week

Giant Eagle has pork chops on sale this week for $1.99. My family loves pork so I am always looking for new ways to fix it! This recipe is supposed to be awesome!!! Happy Eating!

Sour Cream Pork Chops

6 pork chops (On sale for $1.99 a lb) $2
salt and pepper to taste
garlic powder to taste
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1 large onion, sliced 1/4 inch thick .50
2 cubes chicken bouillon
2 cups boiling water
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 (8 ounce) container sour cream (Heluva Good Sour Cream on sale and w/c .50) .25


Season pork chops with salt, pepper, and garlic powder, and then dredge in 1/2 cup flour. In a skillet over medium heat, lightly brown chops in a small amount of oil.

Place chops in slow cooker, and top with onion slices. Dissolve bouillon cubes in boiling water and pour over chops. Cover, and cook on Low 7 to 8 hours.

Preheat oven to 200 degrees F (95 degrees C).

After the chops have cooked, transfer chops to the oven to keep warm. Be careful, the chops are so tender they will fall apart. In a small bowl, blend 2 tablespoons flour with the sour cream; mix into meat juices. Turn slow cooker to High for 15 to 30 minutes, or until sauce is slightly thickened. Serve sauce over pork chops.
